- 1pm Dame Esther Rantzen hears from our u3a guest speakers
A presentation providing a fresh look at the inspiring story of the Kindertransport, the scheme which saw the rescue of 10,000 mostly Jewish children from Nazi Germany and neighbouring countries to safety in Britain. In this talk, we will consider the international and political situation that made it so urgent and meet some of those involved in this rescue. How were these child refugees treated once they arrived here, and what contribution have they made to British society? Reference will also be made to the stories and memories from u3a members, some of whom will feature in the afternoon session.
Presented by Steve Williams – Steve spent nearly 40 years working in Further Education colleges, including running Holocaust Education programmes for 16-19 year olds. He now volunteers as a Holocaust Education advisor at the Centre for German Jewish Studies at the University of Sussex. Steve gave an expanded version of this talk to his local u3a group, Arun East, for Holocaust Memorial Day in January 2021.
