Group information

The Literature Group was one of the first groups when Minehead & District U3A started in 1998.  Since then we have read a variety of books: classics, new publications, books by authors of different nationalities (including American and African authors), biographies, autobiographies and travel books.

We normally meet in Minehead, and we always have a lively discussion.  It is helpful if we choose books that are easily available from the library, and which we can order in advance.

Latest group news

Despite the library closure, we have managed to keep going and have read a variety of books including classics like ‘North and South’ by Mrs Gaskell; Rebecca Stott’s autobiography ‘In the Days of Rain’, describing growing up in the Plymouth Brethren; ‘The Reader’ by Bernhard Schlink set in Nazi Germany; and ‘When God was a Rabbit’ by Sarah Winman; amongst others. Each of us takes it in turn to choose and the books are all very different, but they do have one thing in common – they provoke a lively discussion at our meetings.
