The important bit!
The German Study Group meets monthly on the second Thursday of each month at 10 30 am. We normally meet at Highfield, The Parks, Minehead, but while COVID restrictions are in place, meetings are suspended. Please remember to check the Calendar in case of any late changes to schedule.
Our group is led by Rita Tremain, and she may be contacted at 01643 703154, or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org. Please note that this group has limited membership. If you are interested in adding your name to a waiting list, click here.
We have decided to suspend both German groups for the moment. I think the element people most enjoy is sitting around with a coffee and a chocolate biscuit (or 3), and an informal chat. I don’t think video conferencing would fit the bill, although I understand Zoom is a really useful tool. I am a member of the Economics group and members are hoping to exchange views by email, which tends to happen a bit anyway. We haven’t embarked on that yet but it may be suitable to discuss a specific topic. We all hope this situation doesn’t go on for too long, I’m sure the German groups will be glad to reconvene whenever we can.
Meanwhile, let’s hope we all stay safe and well.
About the group
Members of the study group have a working knowledge of German – roughly GCSE level or above – but are not fluent, so we stop and discuss vocabulary and points of grammar as needed. Most of the group have German connections or may visit the country occasionally, so they are motivated to improve their German because they want to use it.
