Our Speaker at the November ‘Coffee Morning’ on Thursday November 18th at 10.30 a.m. will be John Polley who will tell us about his career ‘Driving under London’.

John Polley has a variety of interests, including local history, transport, and industrial archaeology. When John left school back in the long hot summer of 1976 he wanted to become a train driver. However, his mother would not let him do so as she felt that it was a dirty low paid job. 24 years later John finally ‘got on the handle’ when aged 40 he joined London Underground as a trainee tube train driver. It was to be one of the best experiences of his working life! John will explain how the London Underground that we are all familiar with today came to be. He will take us behind the scenes on a journey along the Northern Line whilst also pointing out some little known interesting facts.

As usual, the Zoom link for this talk will be sent to all current members on the Monday preceding the talk.
