We have three items of news relating to Photography:
1 – results of this month’s group challenge – ‘Spring Flowers‘ – are now available to enjoy.
2 – *UPDATED* Pam Young writes:
In my role as welfare officer, I’ve been networking with other organisations. One organisation is Magna Housing: we benefit from using their residential housing sites’ meeting rooms at special rates in Watchet and Williton, and I have been working with them to encourage their tenants to join U3A.
I have an opportunity to offer all photography beginners, or those not that confident, an introduction to the art. Magna have received funding to offer a series of sessions for those of us just tinkering and starting out with our cameras or phones.
This new group is called Step and Snap! It’s free and it’s an opportunity to take part in competitions, meet new people, get out and about, as there will be set themes to encourage you to shake off the lockdown blues. The sessions will be monthly and will start at 3pm on 2nd June by Zoom and, maybe as time goes by, some real meetings.
The courses will be run by Rob Young, who is part of our U3A, and has a love of photography. He studied photography as part of his media course, and is an active member of the Phoenix Photography Group in Taunton. Rob has exhibited some of his work and has even sold a few.
Here are some examples of his work. I believe the first theme might be trees. If you are interested in joining us, and yes I’m joining in, then let me know
3 – There is an exhibition at the Museum of Somerset, Taunton, showing the results of the RPS International Photography Competition, showing from May 19th. Well worth a visit if you are in Taunton, but be aware that you have to book in advance (free of charge and up to two weeks in advance) by visiting https://swheritage.org.uk/museum-of-somerset/
