An introduction to Interest Groups

An Interest Group is a collection of people focusing on a topic or activity with a common shared interest.  The U3A ‘philosophy’ of mutual support (Click here for an outline of U3A principles) means that Interest Groups are key activities.  Our interest groups range far and wide, from socially-oriented groups such as the Lunch Club and Theatre trips, through enjoying games like Scrabble and Chess, to learning languages collaboratively or undertaking research on the local area.

No interest group already for YOUR topic or activity?   Why not start one?  Find out more about convening a group here.

Some activities open to U3A members are being organised jointly with other organisations. One such example is a group in conjunction with Magna Housing in Williton. A new style of group has been launched in the summer of 2021 called ‘Step ‘n Snap’ aimed at completely novice photographers. Contact for more information.

Increasingly, our communications and activities use ‘new’ technology, where it suits the Group – it can be MORE inclusive than meeting in person – remember that not all can easily leave home or travel far.   Our IT Champions can help, why not find out more?
