Please add in details of any free services you find that may be of interest to members.

    — Ancestry.  Pam Bartlett has noted on our Facebook page that you can access Ancestry free at the local library.  All you need to do is join the library!

    — FamilySearch. This website – familysearch.org – offers a wide range of tools. It is free, but registration is necessary. You can use it to view details, for instance, in the US Census returns. Searching can take a bit of getting used to, but if you persist, you may well find a valuable lead.

    — 1881 Census is free to search on Find My Past.  Again a registration is required

Another free resource is https://www.freebmd.org.uk/ – and you don’t have to register.  As well as by date range you can limit your search to certain counties or districts or even using just the first names.  Very helpful when you find someone on a census living with her parents, all of them using the same surname but with no marriage or birth records …………………..
