Hello for any of you who were unable to attend the AGM on Thursday. I would like to once again apologise that the meeting was not available on Zoom due to technical issues. The good news is we had enough members present to elect a new committee and I am delighted to say that I was elected chair. So let me introduce myself I am Pam Young and I have been on the committee for a few years working on welfare and Network Liaison.
The committee has changed considerably. We lost long term committee members Helen Selling, Hilary Fisk and Margaret Shaw. As well as Sue Hutchings our current secretary. John Batt finished his 3 year term as Chair though he is continuing on the committee. Paul Vickery is continuing as well but we also welcomed 3 new committee members Julie Burt, Linda Bradburn and Anne Turner.
I would like take this opportunity to say that we currently only have 7 committee members and 5 vacancies and I would love to hear from anyone interested in joining us. I have to announce that our treasurer Nic Pettit is standing down in September so we need to urgently recruit his successor. We will not legally be able to run our U3A without one. So if anyone has been a treasurer, worked in finance or run their own accounts please consider if you can help. Nic is happy to discuss his role, provide a hand over and has set up all the spreadsheets required.
Our new committee members have taken on the following roles
Linda Bradburn will be taking over from Helen as our Group Co-ordination
Julie Burt will be taking on 2 roles temporarily as Membership Secretary, replacing Hilary, and Business Secretary replacing Sue.
Anne Turner will be taking on our minute Secretary role
I hope you will understand that we will all be adjusting to our new roles and managing the gaps we have.
I am hoping we have found our newsletter editor but we need to build a team to support that role and also recruit and train website editors and technical support as we recently lost Mark Rest and Martin Fisk who have worked tirelessly on our website and hybrid meetings. You don’t necessarily need to join the committee to help us in these areas and we’d love to hear from you if you feel you could help.
The new committee will be meeting very soon to carry on the normal running of our u3a and looking at future projects.
Regards
