The December meeting of the Committee discussed setting the subscription rate for the next year – that is, April 2022 until March 2023. The figure decided upon is £12 for an individual and £24 for a couple (plus £8.00 extra  for a printed copy of the newsletter, where requested).

For renewing members, the new figure will apply from the March/April 2022 renewal round. For members joining from 1st February 2022, the new figure will apply, but will cover the period from joining date until the end of March, 2023.

Why increase the subscription, you ask?

  1. Our subscription has to include the monies charged by the National U3A Third Age Trust. The previous subscription of £10 (£20 for a couple) gave a bare £2.50 per person to cover costs for the local activities.
  2. We anticipate that there will be a pent-up demand for face-to-face meetings come the lessening of the Coronavirus threat, and we wish as a committee to ensure that we provide for such gatherings across the area, not just in Minehead – so we are planning for more, possibly smaller, regular face-to-face gatherings as well as continuing with our Speaker’s Morning every month.
  3. By continuing our Speaker’s Mornings as Zoom presentations, the Committee feels that this gives more scope for nationally-based speakers – offering a much wider range of topics than could be provided just using speakers able to travel to Minehead for the event. This does mean that some slight increase in Speakers’ fee expenditure is to be anticipated for the coming year.
