David Temple has successfully steered  our always popular Local History Group over the last 3 years, but is now wanting to  ‘take a back seat’ and asks for people interested in local history to come forward to lead the group to even greater heights!

Just about the largest of our current Interest Groups, local history carried on regardless through the pandemic with a great series of Zoom-based talks from members on a wide range of topics – from Mining and transport to the rigours of Exmoor farming and the Minehead Pier.

David’s intention is to continue as an active member and assist whoever takes over, if they want help.   However,  he says he will not interfere with new ideas etc.  So the direction of the Group from here on in is down to whoever steps forward now!

David comments: ‘Basically I have tried to get members to do some digging on whatever interests them and present something (briefly) to the group’.  A small handful of people have come forward with topics  – previously the Group has received talks from external speakers and engaged in visits and guided walks.

See the Local History Group page  for more background and how to contact David for a chat.
