Registering with Zoom

By | November 2, 2020

This process may follow when you initially download Zoom in Windows.  Options may be slightly different on other devices.

For Account Registration with Zoom, start in your internet browser (Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Firefox, etc.), and type in the search bar.  You should then see this

Click on the big orange button on the right – ‘SIGN UP, IT’S FREE’.  Zoom will ask for your birthdate (this remains secure):

Enter your date of birth by clicking on the downward chevrons for month, then day, then year, and click ‘Continue’.

You now need to enter your email address:

Ignore the fact that it says ‘Your work email address’, just give the address, and click on ‘Sign Up’.  Zoom will respond:

Click on the big orange button ‘Confirm’.  You will now see the following, with your email mentioned:

Check your email inbox – but also your junk mail folder.  Note that if you do not receive any email after a short period, go back to the Zoom dialogue, as above, and (after double checking the email address shown) click the option ‘Resend another email’.

An email from Zoom will include this text:

Click ‘Activate Account’.  Zoom will ask if you are registering for a school – say No and click ‘Continue’.

You will now be in the final setup, requiring your identification.  The first screen asks for your name and password:

Choose a suitable password –  you will need to enter it again to ‘confirm password’.  Then click ‘Continue’.

Zoom is trying to spread its user base, so the next screen asks you to ‘Invite your colleagues’:

You can bypass this – click ‘Skip this step’ at the bottom right of the window.

If you have now registered prior to a download and install, you may be offered a test meeting, leading to the installation process:

Click ‘Start Meeting Now’, and in a few seconds the Zoom app Installer should be downloaded:

Once the download has finished click on the file ‘Zoom … exe’ indicated by the large arrow.  This will install Zoom on your device.  During the install you will be asked ‘Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?’.  Click ‘Yes’.

If the Zoom installer does not launch automatically then click the  ‘download here’ link shown in the image above.

When the installer finishes you will be asked to agree to the terms of service and privacy policy.  Hyperlinks are provided to allow you to read through these if you wish.  When you are satisfied to continue, click ‘I agree’.

If a meeting window now appears, quit it by clicking on the “x” in the top right of the window.

You are now able to accept invitations to join a meeting, and to schedule your own meeting.
